Realistic Thinking & Helpful Thinking Styles

The following article describes the importance of realistic thinking in comparison to traditional positive thinking, and explains several unhelpful thinking styles. Yes, that’s right. We all have thinking styles - and many of them are unhelpful. Unhelpful thinking styles are well known by psychologists to contribute to low mood or anxiety.

These thinking styles develop in childhood and therefore this is best time to shape them - you guessed it - into helpful thinking styles, that promote positive mood and reduce anxiety.

WiSE WiNDS project workshops educate children of all ages about their own thinking styles, teach them how to be more aware of their own thinking, and of course how to challenge unhelpful thoughts to create more realistic alternatives. By doing this, individuals are more equipped to protect themselves against anxiety and depression, which allows a mental fitness to flourish.
